Reason #34: Free Tina Fey!

Where to begin?

If you haven’t yet seen Tina Fey‘s brilliant portrayals of Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live, check these out: (1) her first portrayal of Palin, with Amy Poehler as Hillary Clinton, and (2) her second, of Palin’s interview with Katie Couric.

What’s so hilarious–but also absolutely frightening–about Fey’s redoing of Palin’s interview with Couric is that in parts she uses Palin’s own language verbatim.  Its so incomprehensible and vapid that its funny as satire until you realize that Fey is repeating what Palin actually said (especially the parts about the Wall Street bailout, and the continuing farce about Alaska’s geographic proximity to Russia somehow constituting vicarious foreign policy experience for Palin).  Then its not so much funny as it is horrifying.

Isn’t Palin supposed to be a hockey mom?  Is she confusing slapshots with slapstick?

In today’s New York Times, op-ed columnist Roger Cohen shares that the “actuarial risk … of Sarah Palin becoming president if the Republican ticket wins the election are 1 in 6 or 7. That’s the same odds as your birthday falling on a Wednesday or being delayed on two consecutive flights into Newark airport.”

This is not a risk we can take.  So, hockey mothers and thinking people everywhere—you know who you are, you might even be able to name the newspapers you read–say no to McCain/Palin.  Say no to ignorance.

We stand by Tina Fey who in a recent interview spoke directly to the American people: “I want to be done playing this lady November 5.  So if anybody who can help me be done playing this lady November 5, that would be good for me.”

Tina, help is on the way!  Free Tina Fey by voting for Barack Obama on November 4!
